A rare original dramatic offering from cable’s American Movie Channel, the weekly Mad Men TV Show was the story of a major advertising agency operating from New York’s Madison Avenue in 1960. The most successful ad executive at the Sterling Cooper Agency was handsome, indefatigable Don Draper (Jon Hamm), who was not only expert at “playing the game” while servicing accounts ranging from cigarette manufacturers to political candidates, but was also an accomplished ladies’ man, frequently and shamelessly dipping deep into the agency’s all-female secretarial pool. It was crucial for Draper to always be at the top of his professional form: there were scores of hungry young executives who were eager to topple him from his perch and become Sterling Cooper’s new top dog.

Might this Sunday be the last we see of Elisabeth Moss on Mad Men?
The thought is almost too sad to ponder, but if her character of Peggy jumps ad agencies, there’s a chance she’ll no longer be featured on the show.
Heading into this weekend’s season three finale, TV Guide Magazine asked Moss if her decision to join up with Duck’s company will be addressed. The actress replied:
“It’s definitely a huge thing. It’s not going to be swept under the rug.”
In between showing off her engagement ring, presented by Saturday Night Live star Fred Armisen, Moss explained her character’s recent thought process:
“Is [Peggy] supposed to be a mom? Work harder? Work less? Is she supposed to sleep around? One of my favorite lines is when she says to Don, ‘What if this is my time?’”

Don’t forget to watch this week’s episode of Mad Men titled “The Grown Ups.” Peggy’s taste in men is becoming more and more questionable. A big decision about his career is overwhelming Pete while a candidate makes a big impression on Don. The air date for this episode is on Sunday, 1st of November 2009 at 10:00 PM et/pt on AMC.
Best episode of Mad Men ever? Quite possibly. This is what went down during it…
A former client returned to Sterling Cooper… and tried to return to Roger’s bed! She was a former flame of the partner, one that actually broke his heart. Showing incredible restraint, along with loyalty to Jane, Roger actually turned down her advances. Out of love for his wife, or bitterness toward this woman, it’s hard to say. But it was certainly a different side to the typically sarcastic Roger Sterling.
He also tried to help Joan find a job, as she called him early in the episode and said Greg was gonna need more time to study to be a psychiatrist and asked Roger for assistance with employment. After turning down his ex-lover, Roger called a friend and asked if he had an opportunity for Joan (another ex-lover, of course).
But, by the end of the episode, it looks as if Joan wouldn’t need this help, after all. Greg told his wife that he had enlisted for the army because it would let him be a surgeon. He’d do a residency in New York and then maybe get shipped off someplace, but maybe not. Greg was excited about this new plan, but Joan was as hesitant about it was any reasonable viewer. Greg joined the army on the heels of Vietnam? This won’t end well for him.
The crux of the episode, however, was all about Don and Betty. They had the talk. Betty confronted him with his shoebox and past as Dick Whitman. It was as gripping as television can get.
Don came clean, telling his wife all about his former life, even the most shameful of details, such as how his half-brother had killed himself because Don turned him away. There were no more lies, no more slick attempts at story-telling. This was Don at his most naked and honest and it resonated with Betty. She didn’t leave him. She actually seemed to finally appreciate some honesty in their lives.
By the end of the house - after Don had ended things with Miss Farrell over the phone - Betty and Don were trick or treating with their kids. They seemed like a happy family. While the symbolism of the kids being dressed like a gypsy and a hobo may have been laying it on a tad too thick, we loved the final line of the episode: a man answered the doorbell with candy in his hand, looked at Don and asked: Who are you supposed to be?
Sterling Cooper celebrated its 40th anniversary this week, while Betty discovered a major secret about her husband.
The episode kicked off with Don lying to Betty about spending the night in the city, due to the Hilton account. Instead, he went to Ms. Farrell’s house. These two are having an intense affair, as she clearly sees herself as more than just a sex buddy.
At the office, Don seems especially happy about the relationship himself, smiling as he bites into a piece of break Ms. Farrell baked. Kinsey is less happy because Peggy sort of showed him up in a presentation, although she really just thought faster on his feet than he did. This would take place again later in the episode, as Peggy used a saying Kinsey had uttered only moments earlier to pitch Don a great tagline for the Western Union account. Even Kinsey was openly impressed with Peggy’s work. (Or angry that she stole the spotlight again.)
In other office news: the firm was planning a major party for its 40th anniversay. Don was set to give a speech and receive an award at it, much to Roger’s chagrin.
Also, the British bosses informed Pryce that Sterling Cooper was up for sale again. They see an opportunity to make money off the changes they made to it, an interesting development for everyone involved. Will this be an impetus for Don to start his own company?
Back to Don’s personal life: he met Ferrell’s brother, a 25-year old with epilepsy. Don offered to help by driving him to a new job in Bedford, MA, but the young man had other plans. He asked Don to drop him on the side of the road because he didn’t wish to be performing menial jobs his whole life. Clearly seeing a chance to help in this case (as he failed to do with his own brother), Don obeyed, but also gave the kid money and his card, telling him to call any time.
While this was taking place, Betty was finding a key in Don’s pants in the laundry. It opened a drawer in his desk. She used it. Inside that drawer, she found piles of cash, as well as a shoebox. Inside the shoebox? Pictures, dog tags and documents: all from Dick Whitman’s life. The main document Betty focused on what a divorce deed between Don Draper and his wife.
She doesn’t know exactly what this means, but she’s understandably pissed off about it. She doesn’t tell Don what she has found yet, however (it looks like she had planned to, but he never came home that night), and attends the big company party with him. The episode ends with Don about to give his speech, and the camera focused on his wife. She’s staring daggers at him.
Christina Hendricks has married her fiancé Geoffrey Arend at Il Buco restaurant in New York on Sunday, PEOPLE have confirmed.
The redheaded Hendricks, 34, and actor Arend, 31, were engaged earlier this year after being introduced through her Mad Men costar Vincent Kartheiser. Hendricks plays the voluptuous Joan on the show.
The couple exchanged platinum wedding bands made by Tacori. “The rings are simple and lovely – so much like Christina and Geoffrey,” says Tacori rep Michelle Chila. Arend’s engraved ring matches her petite platinum ring with two rows of pave-set diamonds.
When they went ring shopping earlier this year, the two knew they had a match. “They put the rings on the table,” Childa says, “and said, ‘Look, they talk to each other. They’re friends.’ ”
In July, Hendricks told PEOPLE she was planning to wear a Carolina Herrera wedding gown. “It was the first dress I tried on,” she said at the time, “and it was magnificent.”
Equally wonderful, Hendricks said she loves “everything” about Arend. “He’s considerate, he’s thoughtful, he’s smart, he takes care of me,” she said in July. “He’s very, very giving.”
What’s in store for Don now that he’s signed the Sterling contract? We find out tonight on Mad Men in the episode called “Souvenir.”
But before anything else, here’s a quick recap of what happened last week: Conrad Hilton wants Don to handle Hilton’s three New York City properties and Roger, Cooper, and Lane congratulate Don but warns him that there’s a hitch. Connie’s lawyers want Don under contract to Sterling Cooper to ensure continuity so Lane hands Don a three-year contract. In attempt to convince a reluctant Don, who believes that “no contract means I have all the power,” Roger calls Betty to encourage her husband to sign which eventually leads to an argument between Don and Betty. In the end, though, Don decides to sign the contract.
Peggy, on the other hand, receives an expensive Hermes scarf from Duck but Pete advises to send it back, believing that Duck is trying to use them to get back at Don for ousting him from Sterling Cooper. But when Peggy returns the scarf in Duck’s hotel suite, they end up kissing.
The drama continues as Don tries to convince Betty to go on a business trip with him, while Pete helps a neighbor in his building apartment. Not much has been revealed about the eighth episode of the third season but I guess being ambiguous is a good thing for a show like Mad Men. After all, seeing Betty go with Don for trip and seeing Pete lend a hand to a neighbor have not exactly happened before so it’ll be interesting to see how this pans out.
Meanwhile, we also see Pete offering to take the boys out for a drink since there’s no reason to work late and show off because all the bosses are gone. Check out the clip below!
“Mad Men” becomes the subject of parody for PBS’ “Sesame Street” and the characters have been translated into muppet forms. Presented by EMC instead of AMC, the skit sees Don Draper holding a meeting for a honey ad with two of his execs.
Through the ads, the program designed for children wants to show how feelings of “mad”, “sad” and “happy” look like. Without leaving a little easter egg for adults to laugh at, Draper praised his agents after finding the right ad by saying, “Good job, sycophants!“.
This is not the first time “Sesame Street” pays homage to a primetime series. In August 2006, it released an episode of “Law and Order: Special Letters Unit” where the detectives are hunting for a missing letter M. The piece particularly makes fun of the “chunk-chunk” sound which is iconic to “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit“.
Coming on the heels of winning its second straight Emmy for best drama series, Mad Men attempts to prove that it got the victory it deserves with tonight’s “Seven Twenty Three” episode. Is it a significant date? An important event in history? A room number? Or a new address?
We find out that the title of the seventh episode of the third season is a reference to David Ogilvy, the real “Father of Advertising” and his 1963 book “Confessions of an Advertising Man,” a manual in which Ogilvy explains how useless it is to be creative unless you can also sell what you create.
When we last saw Mad Men, two executives from London arrived at Sterling, prompting Cooper to speculate that Don will be offered a dual post in New York and London. Don was summoned to a meeting with hotel magnate Conrad Hilton and looked like he’s about to land a new client, while Lane was given the chance to stay with Sterling at least for the time being.
The drama continues tonight as Betty tries her hand at local politics. Oh and she also has her hands full renovating the house. It looks like she’s aiming for a new look, though because she’s incorporating more fancy pieces of furniture in her living room. Betty wants the benefit of Don’s eye because all he does at work is evaluate objects but Don, suggesting to just “move the lamp at the other end of the sofa,” couldn’t care less since he’s really not into interior decorating.
And while that’s happening, Don is also forced into thinking about the future after a troubling incident ensues. Meanwhile, Peggy gets a very luxurious gift.
